Diversity

So that all children can grow up without discrimination.

Equality and anti-discrimination for a more diverse and accepting society

Many people who do not fit into the prevailing social or cultural norms or who belong to minorities experience discrimination or even violence. In highly conservative cultures, they are persecuted and imprisoned. They have no voice in public life – diversity in society is nowhere to be found.

Girls and women – in other words, half the population – are marginalized and discriminated worldwide. The same applies to people who belong to the LGBTQIA+ community – simply because they feel differently or define themselves differently from the majority. People with disabilities are often excluded. And many experience social exclusion, violence, and discrimination simply because they have a different skin color or ethnic origin than the people around them.

Children and young people who belong to such a minority (or even several at once) often experience rejection from an early age. For many, this shapes their entire lives.

SOS Children's Villages is committed to encouraging diversity and tolerance worldwide so that children can grow up without discrimination. In our programs, we show how essential diversity is in society. We train our employees on topics such as gender equality, anti-racism and women's empowerment. Above all, we empower children and young people so they don't have to be afraid to be themselves and can develop in the way that is best for them!

LGBTQIA+

It is very essential for children and young people to be able to express their sexual identity. Our colleagues support them on their journey and are committed to promoting a tolerant and diverse world.

Anti-racism

When children experience racial discrimination, it can have a negative impact on their entire lives. We work to empower children against racism and establish anti-racist thinking patterns.

Inclusion

Every child, every person, is perfectly fine just as they are. We want disabled children to have exactly the same opportunities as children who grow up without limitations.

Gender Equality

Gender equality is a popular topic of discussion, but there is still a long way to go. We are committed to improve the rights of girls and women worldwide.
