Transparency

SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit vouches for the careful use of donations. We ensure this with internal and external control systems and accountability. We are transparent with our figures. SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit bears the DZI donation seal and is a member of the Initiative Transparente Zivilgesellschaft (Transparent Civil Society Initiative). Our Guidelines:

  • SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit bear the DZI donation seal. Our income and expenditure are subject to the strict control of the DZI (Deutsches Zentralinstitut für soziale Fragen, i.e. German Central Institute for Social Issues). We publish the assessment from the DZI annually in our annual report.  The annual report is only available in German.
  • Every year, the association prepares annual financial statements and voluntarily submits to the strict guidelines of German commercial law. We publish annual financial statements with the profit and loss account and the balance sheet in our annual report.
  • Our annual financial statements are also audited by an independent auditing firm (KPMG). We are happy to undergo this particularly thorough audit in accordance with the criteria for large corporations with all the associated, stringent statutory disclosure and reporting requirements. The audit assignment includes, among other things, auditing the direct use of the association's funds for statutory purposes. The SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit regularly receive an unrestricted audit certificate—in other words, a seal of approval for clean accounting.
  • The business of SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit e.V. association is conducted by the Management Board. The board consists of three full-time members who are responsible for the proper, efficient and economical management of the association. They serve the best interests and purposes of the association.
  • The Supervisory Board monitors the work of the Management Board. The seven members of the Supervisory Board meet five times a year. In addition, the Supervisory Board is regularly informed about current business through a separate reporting system. The members of the Supervisory Board of SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit are: Dr. Christiane Bögemann-Hagedorn (Deputy Chair), Dr. Gregor Broschinski, Dr. Karin Freifrau von Funck, Dr. Nicola Müllerschön, Dr. Stefan Piëch, Dr. Christoph-Marc Pressler (Chair), Petra Zimmermann-Schwier.
  • The Management Board must prepare an annual budget for the coming year. This is submitted to the Supervisory Board for approval.
  • The SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit office in Munich is organizationally divided into the following areas: Executive Board, Marketing, Fundraising, Dialogue, Private Partners and Sponsors, Institutional Partners and Programs, Corporate Partners, Estate Management, Finance, International Operations, Human Resources and Branch Offices. 139 employees (as of December 2020) are employed in the main and branch offices. A comprehensive set of guidelines stipulates that all employees of SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit must comply with self-monitoring measures such as authorization controls and signatory powers as well as the dual control principle.
  • In order to maintain secure channels of communication, OSR lawyers have been appointed ombudsman by the board of SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit e.V. Employees and third parties can contact this office confidentially and anonymously if there are indications of non-compliance regarding legal regulations or internal guidelines.
