Education

Every child has a right to education! We empower children in need to master their future – worldwide.

Education is more than school – and the family plays a key role here: in a loving home, children can develop social skills, self-confidence and independence; here they can discover their talents. By giving parentless and abandoned children a family and supporting them individually from an early age, we lay the foundation for their academic and professional success.

Education & Development

In addition, SOS Children's Villages enable parentless and disadvantaged children to receive a sound education that matches their individual talents and abilities.

In poor countries and communities, however, the education offered locally is often inadequate and there are few job-related training opportunities. That is why SOS Children's Villages operate its own kindergartens, schools and vocational training centres in many locations. In this way, we set standards for high-quality education.

Our educational programs are open to girls and boys from the neighbourhoods of our SOS Children's Villages. We also give children from poor families access to education; for example, by helping them with school fees and vocational training. This is a core element of our holistic help for families in need.

In order to assist families in helping themselves, we also focus on education for the parents with literacy courses, vocational counselling and adult education, right up to start-up assistance for setting up a small business. In this way, parents can offer their children prospects on their own and break the vicious circle of poverty.

Supporting with homework

In order to provide disadvantaged young people with sound vocational training, SOS Children's Villages is increasingly working with partners from the business community, such as with "YouthCan!", a training initiative for young people.

Through education, we offer disadvantaged children, young people and parents the chance of a self-determined life. At the same time, we lay the foundation for social and economic development. Education is one of the most effective means of sustainable development aid.

Where we support

  • Kindergarten – Our educational work begins with the youngest children: In our kindergartens we care for girls and boys and support them through early childhood education.
  • School – A good school education is the key to the future. Our SOS Hermann Gmeiner schools provide girls and boys with primary and secondary education.
  • Vocational training – Good vocational training is the best start-up aid we can offer. In our vocational training centers, young people develop their professional skills.
